An “Art Journey” to Rediscover the Charm of Fukuoka, Where You Can Encounter Different Artworks Every Time You Visit.
The concept of the hotel is “a high-grade hotel which provides experiences of the chic of Hakata and Japanese culture and promotes the charm of Fukuoka, a city of international exchange”. The walls of the 4th floor lobby, where guests are greeted, are decorated with traditional crafts and objects that evoke the history and culture of Fukuoka and Hakata, such as Martiglas and Hakata Magemono, are the space truly embodies the hotel’s concept. On this project, we are planning to utilize this spacious lobby space to exhibit artworks by artists who are connected with Fukuoka, changing them periodically so that visitors can enjoy the diverse expressions of these artists.
Vibrant Art Adorns the Lobby Space – Exhibition by Sayuri Tsuboyama
The first artist in this collaborative project is Sayuri Tsuboyama, who was born in Fukuoka and is a graduate of Tokyo University of the Arts graduate school. Having been familiar with nature since childhood, and based on the experience of studying the environmental science in high school, she creates originative oil paintings based on the theme of “the relationship between people and the natural world”. In recent years, her popularity has expanded overseas, as she held solo exhibitions in Tokyo and other Asian countries, and her originative artworks attract many people. She won a prize in the inaugural “Fukuoka WallArt Project*1,” and her works are also on display inside the JR Kyushu D&S train “Kanpachi Ichiroku”.
THE BLOSSOM HAKATA Premier supports “Fukuoka Art Next (FaN)” project, the community development through artists which Fukuoka city promotes, and we are pleased to have had the opportunity to work with her through “Artist Cafe Fukuoka (ACF)” which serves as a base for artists to grow and interact with each other, and she created the artwork to be exhibited for the lobby space.

The Coastline of My Hometown, Seen From an Airplane Window
This time, her artwork to be exhibited at the hotel expresses “The view of Fukuoka From the Sky”.

She said, “The blue sea, the landscape of green mountains, and the unique coastline to Shiga Island when flying to and from Fukuoka from the airplane window. I expressed the charm of abundant nature in Fukuoka by matiere (skin tone) and colors using blotches that appear when oil paint reacts scientifically. And at the center of the picture is here, THE BLOSSOM HAKATA Premier. Changing the perspective of your current location may be a chance to lead us to new value and ideas. *Landschaft is the German word from which the English word “landscape” is derived, and in addition to the meaning of “landscape,” it also includes “natural environment, locality, and regionality””.
The artwork is truly painted as the beautiful scenery of Fukuoka from a bird’s eye view perspective, and providing visitors with new discoveries and impressions.
